Okonomiyaki (A hack on the original)

We are huge fans of the many street food delicacies in Japan, so when we figured out this little hack, we just knew we had to share it with you. It’s a great afternoon snack or a weekend option for lunch or dinner.

Preparation Time:

5 minutes

Cooking Time:

10 minutes


Heat a medium sized pan with some vegetable oil. Place patties in the pan and cook either side until they begin to get a brown crust (3-4 minutes) on the edges of the pattie.

Once cooked remove from pan and place on a bed of fresh shredded lettuce. Cover the patty with a liberal helping of tonkatsu sauce then some mayo and a sprinkling of shichimi flakes.

½ lettuce, shredded

Tonkatsu sauce

Kewpie mayonnaise

Shichimi Togarashi – optional if you like a bit of spice!
